Pappu Movie PhotosPappu is not an underdog at the box-office but it is definitely a pleasant surprise. The first half of the film is boring but the prelude before the interval when Subbaraju arrives, brings the enthusiasm in the story and narration. The characters have Laurel and Hardy resemblances just not by physique but in action too. The hero Pappu (Krishnudu) suffers from a misfortune, everything he aims for eludes him in the nth minute so when his boss's daughter Radha (Deepika) is kidnapped, the boss is advised to send Pappu, or accost Ram a CID officer to trace her to nullify the bad effects in Radha's horoscope. Pappu though is used as a pawn emerges the winner, a favourite of everyone and all's well that ends well.
Lingaraju owes his rags to riches story to a Swamiji, he seldom uses his brain when there is a problem and so when his daughter is kidnapped he goes to the Swamiji. Uttej plays Lingaraju's favourite employee and he is giving away the clues to the villains. The first half introduces the characters and elaborates a little too much on Krishnudu. There is a mass jig by Krishnudu, and he has by far let off his plastic expressions. He has clearly stopped depending on his weight to do the performance, and there is visibility, by each film he's improving. The director has put in effort, shows traces of talent, there is freshness in the film that has Krishnudu playing the lead role.
Subbaraju steps in to lead and overshadow Krishnudu but the story is smartly handled to give the hero his due place. The chemistry between Subbaraju and Krishnudu is effusive, pleasant and the camaraderie comes through. But the climax is very Manmohandesaiisque..Deepika, a debutante like all girls doesn't get to do much in the film except running, smiling or looking tired but for the first film she did a reasonably good job, though she needs to improvise on lot more. Her looks doesn't suit the telugu story.
What makes the second half of the story interesting is the way the comic dialogues have been interspersed, they aren't very intelligent but just natural and spontaneous. Gundu Hanumantha Rao's lines are clichéd. The chase drags towards the end and the director is tempted to give into a commercial touch. The music brings the story alive, Phani Kalyan who comes from AR Rehman School has the potential. The dubbing for Deepika is lethargic, there is plenty of gap between the voice and the lip, it doesn't sync.
The movie is a good time pass, kids might enjoy it, especially the butterfly catching scene, joke on flatulence and some juvenile sequences..as there isn't anything embarrassing, the title is justified..makes a good watch if you have nothing else to do.
